We visited Halong Bay, Vietnam back in December, and I can't believe I've waited so long to share these photos! Throughout our travels in Southeast Asia, we saw many incredible places. Halong Bay is definitely among the top for me though. For two days we sailed the bay, enjoyed the company of new friends, and marveled at the views.
Of all the things we did in Asia, this cruise was definitely one of our splurges. It was about $200/ night for the cabin that Rich and I got, which also included our meals, kayaking, and bus rides to and from the ship. Even though it was a splurge, I would say it's still a great deal for what we got! There are lots of different cruises that sail around the bay, but we went with Galaxy. I would definitely recommend them!
We were told that many of the fisherman used to have house boats around the bay, but that the government had recently banned permanent structures. As the bay becomes more and more of a draw for tourists, the government is looking to keep it a safer place. Apparently a lot of fisherman had been throwing bombs in the water to catch their fish! Though I can see why the government would want to put a stop to that, it did make me sad to see fisherman packing up their homes...
Because our visit was during Winter, the sky was mostly gray. Though it was incredibly beautiful, I was told that May would be a perfect time to visit.
